In June, 2005, Pittsford Musicals presented area high school seniors with scholarships. The funds for the scholarships were generated by the 2004 production of Mame. Congratulations to all of the 2005 recipients! From Pittsford Sutherland High School: Diana Peet will major in Music Education at Westminster College. Diana is an outstanding instrumentalist, dancer, singer and actress. She plays first trumpet for the SHS Jazz Ensemble, is a member of Concert and Show Choirs, and has had numerous roles onstage in SHS musicals and dramas. Diana appeared in the PM production of THE MUSIC MAN. Most recently, Diana has been sharing her talents as an assistant choreographer for the PSEI middle school productions, which will serve her well in her future plans to become a music teacher. Dana Ryan will attend Columbus College of Art and Design with a major in Illustration. Dana has won numerous art awards including 4 Gold Key, 1 Honorable Mention, and 1 Excellence in Painting from the Scholastic Art Awards, as well as Best in Show awards from the SHS Fine Arts Festival and the Pittsford Art Group Award. He has appeared in featured roles in the musicals at SHS and shared his artistic talents as a graphic designer and scene painter for the productions. Dana also won the Coaches Award for varsity Volleyball. From Pittsford Mendon High School: Andrew J. Coniglio will attend the University of Michigan as a voice performance major. If you have attended Mendon's musicals you will recognize Andrew as the title role in JEKYLL AND HYDE, Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLES and the Beast in BEAUTY AND THE BEST. He has also appeared in Mendon's dramas. Andrew is also a member of the MHS Select and Show Choirs as well as the Men's A Cappella group. His goal is to sing professionally. Elise Piazza will attend Williams College with a double major in Music and an academic subject. Elise is the principal clarinetist for the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the PMHS Wind Ensemble as well as the Hochstein Youth Wind Symphony. She is a member of the Hochstein Scholarship Woodwind Quartet and was a member of the Hershey All U.S.A. Band for top national student musicians. Elise is also an accomplished pianist and has played in numerous pit orchestras for the Pittsford schools. Her plans include pursuing an advanced degree in Music Cognition, Music Journalism, or Music Composition/Theory. From Victor High School: Ralph F. Donatelli III will attend Niagara University with a double major in Theatre and Communications. He has appeared in leading roles in both musicals and dramas art Victor High School. Ralph has also appeared in the Great Lakes Productions of JOEY AND MARIA'S COMEDY WEDDING and THE SOAPRANOS. He was nominated as Best Supporting Actor in the Stars of Tomorrow program and is a recepient of the USAA Speech and Drama Award and the USAA Leadership and Service Award. Ralph plans to be a radio DJ or newsanchor/caster. From Rochester School of the Arts: Rebecca Brown will attend Savannah College of Art and Design to study Stage/Film Directing with a double major in costume design. Rebecca has danced with the Rochester Ballet in the NUTCRACKER and with the Clark Academy of Dance. She has been involved in numerous productions both onstage and behind the scenes at SOTA. She was costume designer for THE MEMBER OF THE WEDDING at SOTA and has served as assistant director MACBETH and WAIT UNTIL DARK among others. Rebecca's ultimate goal is to direct and produce films. From Brighton High School: Jacob Richard will attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts as a Musical Theatre major in the CAP 21 Studio. Jacob has made many appearances in productions at Brighton High School, most recently as Billy in 42ND STREET. He is also a member of Brighton's Choir, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Crazy Pitches, an Acapella group. He has performed in NYSSMA All-County and Area All State vocal groups. Jacob plans to be a musical theatre performer. From Fairport High School: Julia Jentzen will attend Ithaca College to study Theatrical Production Arts with an emphasis in Theatre Technology. Julia has been involved in many productions with the Fairport Drama Club, Everyone's Theatre Company, and the Pittsford Summer Enrichment Institute. She has served in a number of technical positions including Set Designer,Stage Manager, and Technical Director. Julia is also a member of the Fairport Marching Band and Fairport Crew. Her career goals are to work in professional theatre as a Stage Manager and Technical Director. The Bill Weyl Memorial Scholarship, Penfield High School: Kristin Rocco will attend AMDA (American Musical and Drama Academy) in New York City where she has received a scholarship for study. She also received the Rebecca Lamb Award for Musical Theatre. Kristin has been very active in both the drama and music programs at her school and has appeared in numerous productions. In addition, she has performed in the "Sing Out" production and is a lead singer with a band. She has extensive training in dance and voice and manages to handle many volunteer activities while maintaining high honor roll each semester as well. Kristin hopes to make a career as a well-known and respected performer.
