The Story
Widowed matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi, a self-proclaimed "meddler," will jump in wherever there is a quick buck to be made.
Her meddling becomes self-serving when she sets about to find a mate for Yonkers businessman Horace Vandergelder, a wealthy and cranky bachelor who lives in in Yonkers, NY. Dolly suggests two possible matches for Horace, but from the begining she decides that Horace -- and his money -- are the perfect match for her.
Dolly convinces Horace, his store clerks (Barnaby and Cornelius) and niece to take the train to New York City for a day of fun. The trip turns out to be a romantic adventure beyond anyone's expectations.
The show features many memorable songs, such as "Hello, Dolly!," "Before the Parade Passes By," "It Only Takes a Moment," "Put On Your Sunday Clothes" and "So Long, Dearie." The title song became so popular that it helped Hello, Dolly! become the longest-running musical in Broadway history in its day.
Hello, Dolly! is one of the most popular Broadway musicals of all time, and Pittsford Musicals is proud to bring it to the stage on its 40th anniversary.
